There are 5 different use options available
for each car on the policy.
Generally the more the client uses the
car, the higher the risk becomes. The client must indicate for
what use they will use the car for the operator to allocate the
correct use.
Private
Use
Private, no commuting use is often referred to social, domestic and pleasure
use. This use is given to clients who are not in gainful employment i.e. retired,
students, unemployed, or housewives.
Private
and Commuting Use
Commuting use is defined as the use of the car to travel to and from a place
of work. This definition includes the travel to connect with other forms of
transport, to get to and from a place of gainful employment. For example, commuting
to the train or bus station. Students with part-time jobs are considered to
be in gainful employment and require private and commuting use.
Business
Use
If the car is being used in connection with work, either to visit clients or
more than one place of work, the client will need a level of business cover.
Class
1
It is only the Regular Driver and Spouse who may have business use class
1. Business cover does NOT extend to cover any other named drivers on the
policy, although the named drivers may still use the car for social, domestic
and pleasure purposes.
Class
2
Class 2 covers named drivers and the RD/Sp business use. The named drivers
only have the business use cover when they are driving the car in connection
with the business of the main driver, They do NOT have cover if they are
driving for the business of a different employer.
Class
3
Class 3 use provides business cover for the transportation
of light goods, which have already been purchased, for example,
pizzas or flowers. The driver who needs cover while selling
services on a "door to door" basis
will be covered by this option.
Note: Irrespective of whether or not the
client is getting paid for the work that they do, they may require
business use if they are either carrying passengers in the car
or using the car to travel between places of work during the day.
As in the ‘Details of Cover’:
Uses for which the car is insured
There will be no cover if the car is used
in connection with the motor trade. Any cover you have for loss
or damage to your car continues while the car is being repaired
or serviced by a member of the motor trade or being parked by an
employee of a hotel or restaurant.
The Regular Driver
The Regular Driver is the person who drives the car the most. You can insure
more than one car, each with a different Regular Driver. The Regular Driver
earns the NCD entitlement.
Named Drivers
A named driver is any other driver named as a driver on the policy. Named drivers
need not live at the same address as the client but they will be fully
underwritten in order to establish the acceptability and premium.
