A Temporary Driver is a driver who may be
added to the policy for a short, limited period of time.
A Temporary Driver cannot be added to a
brand new policy at the point of sale. Instead the policyholder
must contact Customer Services in order to add the Temporary Driver.
The maximum time that a Temporary Driver may be added to a policy for is 14
days. At the end of 14 days the same driver may be re-added however, after
the third occasion the Temporary Driver should be added as a named
driver.
Temporary Drivers
are underwritten in the same way as named drivers, and the system
will calculate the premium accordingly. A minimum premium applies
to add a Temporary Driver – this
was £15.00 at the time this information was compiled.
The Temporary Driver may specify a different use for the vehicle to that of
the Regular Driver, (depending upon the underwriting criteria
of the panel member). For example, the main driver may use the
car for Private & Commuting use but
the Temporary Driver could specify Business Use.
Business use
is restricted to use 1 or 2. Business use class 3 is not allowed.
The business use for a Temporary Driver is only for use in relation
with the Regular Driver's business.
