Summer can pose potential problems for motorists,
with the risk of an inconvenient upset, such as a breakdown in
baking hot weather, can turn a pleasant day trip into a nightmare
outing.
Not preparing your car for summer motoring
could be disastrous for drivers. This is why QuoteMart have put together
some tips for summer driving:
1. Always make sure that your car is serviced
regularly.
2. Check your headlights and indicators
to ensure they are free from cracks or missing glass or plastic.
Always keep the exterior lights clean for a clear beam.
3. Check front and rear wiper blades for wear or splitting. Make sure you have
sufficient windscreen wash in the tank before setting off.
4. Keep an eye
on the dashboard’s
warning lights to ensure they are working correctly. If you are
unsure of what to do, consult your owner’s handbook or contact
your local dealer.
5. Check your oil and water levels. If you
are running low, top these up. Carry a spare bottle of water or
carton of oil in your car.
6. Check the battery connections ensuring
that they are tight and free from any corrosion. Remember that
battery acid is highly corrosive to skin and paint work.
7. Make sure the fan belt is of the correct
tension and in good condition and adjust or replace it as required.
Ensure the ignition key is removed from the vehicle before checking.
8. Tyre conditions should be checked, including
that of the spare, assessing tyre pressure and legal tread depth.
9. Inspect the jack and wheel brace making
sure you are confident about their use. If locking wheel nuts are
fitted, ensure the locking key is safely stowed away in the car.
